SmartCap Defence Fund invests in the Estonian-Ukrainian defence technology company Farsight Vision to enable the development of its product in Estonia and its expansion into international markets. In addition to supporting expansion, the investment will be directed toward Farsight Vision’s next development phase, focused on broader automation in defence robotics, particularly in logistics, navigation, and systems management. A key focus is also strengthening electronic warfare capabilities in both battlefield and critical infrastructure protection.
Farsight Vision has previously received €1.5 million in support, together with Crystalspace, from the applied research program (RUP) defence round. In addition, it was one of 14 companies that won €193,000 last year from the Ministry of Defence’s defence industry development projects round.
The total investment, together with Axon Enterprise and European defence investors,
amounts to €7.2 million. According to
Minister of Economic Affairs and Industry Erkki Keldo, the government continues to fulfil its promise to implement the largest industrial growth plan in Estonia’s history. “The defence industry will become Estonia’s new strength, supported by investments made through the Defence Fund into companies that enhance Estonia’s defence capabilities.
The investment in Farsight Vision brings not only essential capital to Estonia but also high-value-added defence technology development, new skills, and high-paying jobs for top specialists,” Keldo added.
According to
SmartCap CEO Sille Pettai, Farsight Vision is an example of a company where technology born from real necessity is becoming an international dual-use solution for both civilian and military applications. “Their technology enables the use of autonomous systems from threat identification to threat neutralisation.
For Estonia, this means new technological skills and talent in the defence sector, as well as a stronger link between our defence and technology ecosystems,” Pettai said.
