2C Ventures participates in Jälle Technologies' €2m pre-seed round

2C Ventures Invests in Jälle Technologies to Advance Battery Recycling Innovation in Europe

2C Ventures is pleased to announce its participation in the €2 million pre-seed funding round for Jälle Technologies, an Estonian deeptech startup developing advanced solutions to recover critical battery materials and reduce Europe’s dependence on imported resources.

As the continent races toward large-scale electrification, Europe faces a looming battery waste challenge. End-of-life lithium-ion battery volumes are projected to exceed 230 kilotonnes annually by 2030, a staggering 70-fold increase from 2020. Meeting new EU regulations that require at least 70% recycling efficiency for lithium-ion batteries will demand innovative, scalable solutions that can close material loops and strengthen supply chain resilience.

Jälle Technologies offers a compelling answer to this challenge. Building on years of research at Estonia’s National Institute of Chemical Physics and Biophysics, its team has developed proprietary processes designed to maximize lithium recovery while turning what is typically discarded graphite waste into high-value graphene-like materials. These materials, known for their exceptional strength, conductivity, and flexibility, hold significant promise for advanced applications in composites, coatings, electronics, and energy storage.

Hendrik Reimand, Founding Partner at 2C Ventures, explained the firm’s decision to back Jälle Technologies:

“Battery recycling is no longer optional. We need solutions that recover critical materials locally and support a secure, sustainable supply chain. Jälle’s team combines deep technical expertise with a clear commercialization strategy, making them exactly the type of founder-led, high-impact company we want to support.”

The €2 million pre-seed round includes grant support from Enterprise Estonia (EIS) and the Environmental Investment Centre (KIK), along with equity investments from Kiilto Ventures, 2C Ventures, and experienced angel investors Andrus Purde and Priit Viru.

Erki Ani, CEO of Jälle Technologies, welcomed the partnership:

“While the whole world is geared towards electrification, energy storage needs are inevitably on the rise. What happens with these batteries once they’ve reached end of life? With Jälle we are looking a few steps ahead of the curve to be ready for the “tidal wave of dead batteries”. Contributing to increasing battery recycling efficiency, and enabling advanced applications with our graphene-like materials are our two cents for Europe's critical materials challenge. We’re extremely glad that we have such investors who share our vision. It’s not just about funding, it’s about working together to take our technology from the lab to industry.”

The new funding will enable Jälle Technologies to expand pilot-scale production, validate its technology at industrial scale, and strengthen its team in Estonia to meet the growing demand for sustainable recycling solutions.
